Orthodontic-treatment

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that uses transparent plastic aligners to gradually shift your teeth over time using light pressure. You need to wear your aligners in their correct order so you can stay on track with your treatment’s time frame and so that the aligners will fit.

While you wear your aligners, most people can’t see them unless they look very closely. Unlike braces, they don’t transform your appearance while you’re wearing them and, because they’re removable at any time, you don’t have to restrict your diet.

What can Invisalign treat?

Like braces, Invisalign can treat most cases of misalignment. There are a few different types, and Dr. An can tell you which type you have. If he thinks you should consider your options for orthodontics, he lets you know.

Invisalign can treat:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Open bite
  • Crossbite

Using advanced digital imaging and 3D technology, Dr. An can give you an idea of what your teeth will look like once your time with Invisalign is finished.

How long do I need to wear Invisalign?

The duration of the Invisalign treatment varies based on the positioning of your teeth at the start of treatment. At Healthy Smile Dentistry, Dr. An can tell you approximately how long your treatment will take after examining you and performing some imaging tests. The total average treatment time for Invisalign is 9-15 months.

What should I expect while using Invisalign?

While you use Invisalign from Healthy Smile Dentistry, you’ll need to come in for regular checkups so Dr. An can check on your progress. Fortunately, you won’t have to visit as often as you would with braces since they need tightening every so often.

You must wear your Invisalign aligners for 20-22 hours a day, but you should take them out to brush, floss, eat, and drink anything other than water. You may also take them out for special events if you choose to do so.

Each time you remove your aligners, you should clean them off before placing them back in your mouth. You should also brush your teeth after each meal to avoid bacteria getting stuck between the aligners and your teeth for the best results.
